Hythe Conservation is able to repair Plaster sculptures. Small objects can be repaired in the studio.
Plaster Conservation Services
Plaster sculptures can be repaired if it has suffered damage from being knocked, dropped or even scratched.
Due to the porous nature of the material, plaster objects are generally dry cleaned initially to remove surface dust and dirt. If the object has been sealed with a coating such as paint or wax, then limited wet cleaning treatments can be introduced. Surface coatings which are flaking or lifting can be consolidated and broken areas can be bonded and filled.
Plaster Figurine
This hand-sculpted plaster female figure, atop a square plinth, was stabilised at the neck after it had suffered impact damage. The plaster has been disguised with a faux verdigris patina.
From the knock, the head had twisted from the neck on the internal supporting armature. Fragments had become loose and detached from the surface. The head was carefully repositioned and the surface was consolidated to prevent any further separation. All large fragments were bonded in place and areas of loss were filled, and colour matched as close as possible to the patina.
Please note: A professionally recognised Conservator may be employed to assist in repairs to large scale sculptures.
